That's because Stump Cross is a calcite cave – and calcite is a phosphorescent crystal. In other words, it absorbs UV light and then casts it back out like an ancient natural lamp.
The effect is truly magical. As you shine your UV torch on the rocks, you'll see lustrous veins of calcite flash in the darkness and discover hidden details that are invisible to the naked eye.
