Stump Cross on YouTube: what vloggers thought of our UK caves

Several YouTubers have filmed videos at Stump Cross Caverns. What did they make of it? Let's find out.

Stump Cross Caverns is an ancient cave system hidden underneath the tumbling hills of the Yorkshire Dales.

It's a place full of secrets. Weird and wonderful rock formations. Concealed corridors and vast chambers. Fairies, magic and more than 300 million years of history.

Our advice? Come and discover it all for yourself. Deep underground, you'll find new surprises around every corner.

But if you'd rather get a taste before you take the plunge, no problem. Plenty of intrepid YouTubers have visited Stump Cross and documented their adventure on film.

What did they see down there? And what did they make of it all?

Let's check in with some of our favourite vloggers to find out. But be warned – if you don't want to spoil the surprise, look away now.

Rambling with Ritchie: "Absolutely amazing"

UK-based
Ritchie is something of an enthusiast for dark and mysterious places. Over his 15-year YouTube career, he's visited a slate mine in Keswick, a grotto in Ambleside and more than a few show caves.

It was only a matter of time before he visited us here at Stump Cross Caverns.

Ritchie starts his tour in the fossil shop , perusing our rare gems and megalodon teeth. Next, he pokes his head into our private cinema. "Stunning", he remarks.

But the main event, of course, is his trip down into the caves – and Ritchie doesn't miss a moment. If you want a whistle-stop tour of some of our finest rock formations, you won't be disappointed.

Ritchie dishes out some fascinating commentary along the way, too. He points out that The Butchers Shop – a mighty, bulbous mass of calcite crystal – got its name because it looks like meat hanging in a butcher's window.

"When you get closer, they're actually red", he explains. "And the reason why they're red is because of the iron that's in the rock." (Ding ding! Top marks, Ritchie.)

You'll also see glimpses of The Hawk (a bird-shaped stalagmite that Victorian visitors used to rub for luck), The Sentinel (a huge column of pure white limestone) and much more.

His final verdict? "Absolutely amazing."

"I highly recommend [Stump Cross Caverns] to everyone", he says. "It's a place where you can bring kids. There are some kids' activities you can do on the way around."

Theme Park Gang: "Make sure to always look up"

Here's a charming little video from a young YouTuber with a passion for theme parks – and caves.

Yes, our host may be youthful – but she's no greenhorn. Clearly, she's visited a few caves in her time. She even offers up a tip or two for first-time cavers. "If you go caving, make sure to always look up", she says, pointing her camera to the exquisitely decorated roof. "Look at this! You see so much more on the ceiling."

Theme Park Gang is obviously a lifelong fan of Stump Cross Caverns. For her, the video was a trip down memory lane.

"I wanted to promote this cave because it's such a big part of my childhood. I think that it should get a really, well, like, BIG UP ."

We couldn't agree more.

Yorkshire Pop Top Adventures: "The views are gorgeous"

Yorkshire Pop Top Adventures does what it says on the tin. It follows one Yorkshireman and his family as they explore the region in their pop-top camper van.

As you might expect, the channel brings a distinctly different (and distinctly Yorkshire-flavoured) take on the Stump Cross Caverns experience. See, the Pop Top family wasn't just here for the caves – they were also taking advantage of our
affordable motorhome parking .

Dad Colin stayed overnight and came away impressed. "I do like this park-up", he said. "It's simple, and the views are gorgeous. Plus, you have the added bonus of the cafe and show cave."

Of course, he checked out the caverns, too. But he was careful not too give away too many details. "I don't want to give the game away", he remarked. "I want you to come down and experience it for yourself because they are absolutely amazing."

One thing that struck Colin on his underground adventure was the sense of peace and quiet. "You can't hear the road noise", he whispered. "It's as quiet as a mouse. It's unreal."

Overall, Stump Cross got a big thumbs up and a hearty recommendation for fellow campers. "This place is definitely worth a visit – either for the night or simply to explore the caves with your family."

Danielle: "I really, really enjoyed that"

If a video ever deserves more attention, it's this one.

At the time of writing, Danielle's underground adventure stands at 92 views. But it's a thoroughly entertaining video tour that gives a good look at some of the best bits of Stump Cross.

So, you know what to do. Give it a watch, a like and a subscribe. It's well worth it.

An interesting point is that Danielle visited as we began digging out
C Chamber . When our work is complete, this magnificent cavern will be the first new part of the cave opened in at least 25 years.

"We explored all of the caves that there currently is to explore", she explained. "When we were on our way out, a staff member came along, and we were talking to him a little bit all about how they're actually digging out more of the caves."

"So, there's going to be a bit more of the caves to explore", she added, "which is going to be great."

And to sign off: "I really, really enjoyed that".
