Planning a trip to the Yorkshire Dales? Join us as we look at some options for overnight stays – from hotels to Airbnbs, from motorhomes to camping.

At Stump Cross Caverns, you can explore an underground network of prehistoric caves and passageways, brimming with stalagmites, stalactites and crystals. And set as we are in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, the views above ground aren't bad either.

Believe us – it's worth the trip. But if you're coming from outside North Yorkshire, you might be wondering how to make it part of a longer journey. And every longer trip needs a place to lay your head.

So we thought we'd give you a quick guide to some options for overnight stays. These cover hotels, caravan sites, campsites and Airbnbs at a range of price points in the local area.

We hope you find the right spot for you! See you in the caves...

Hotels

The Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa

One of the jewels of the Yorkshire Dales is Bolton Abbey. This mysterious and striking ruin of a 12th-century monastery has inspired everyone from artists to sightseers.

Set in the abbey's sprawling estate, the Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa is a 40-roomed feather-down pillow of a place, perfect for an indulgent spa day or as a base for exploring the Dales.

A 20-minute drive from Stump Cross Caverns, the Devonshire is a
de luxe option for a grand getaway to the country, replete with a seasonal tasting menu, afternoon tea and a plethora of treatments, massages and spa facilities.

The Clarendon Hotel

A short drive away from Stump Cross Caverns is Hebden – a small village dating back to the Bronze Age.

The award-winning Clarendon Inn hasn't been around quite so long, but since 1753 it's only been closed twice. It's as firm a landmark in the area as Grassington's cobbled square.

It offers real ales, game supplied by local shoots and three bedrooms to let. An ideal mid-range option for your trip to the Dales.

Talbot House

Nidderdale is officially an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – all windswept moors, rolling greenery, tranquil woodlands and dramatic valleys. And we should know – you can see it stretching away before you from the Time Cafe here at Stump Cross Caverns.

Talbot House is a Georgian Grade II-listed B&B in the heart of Nidderdale that boasts six en-suite bedrooms, a tearoom, a courtyard and two dining rooms.

Whether you're in the area for walking, unwinding or a bit of both, Talbot House fits the bill. It's situated near cosy local pubs and some glorious walking routes.

Airbnbs

Looking for a unique overnight experience to remember? Perhaps Airbnb could be for you.

Airbnbs have a tendency to pop up and disappear, so we're not going to list any specific options. But whether you want to stay in a cottage, shepherd's hut or even a treehouse, there'll be something for you in the Yorkshire Dales.

And if you want to spend a little less for a private room in a cottage, farmhouse or townhouse, Airbnb can be a great option. In some cases, you'll be staying with your host, and in others, you'll have the place to yourself.

Flexibility is the order of the day when it comes to Airbnb. Have a rummage around and see what you can find...

Motorhomes

Do you have a motorhome or campervan? The Yorkshire Dales are a stunning destination for you. Drive from Stump Cross to Appletreewick, for example, and you'll be treated to some absolutely gorgeous views.

But, obviously, you'll need somewhere to park. And you may as well make parking a part of the trip – another opportunity to experience the outstanding natural beauty of the area.

Here are some possibilities for you.

Near Coldstones Cut

Coldstones Cut is a new visitor attraction in Yorkshire. It's a huge sculpture, which you can walk and explore, overlooking the Coldstones Quarry – still working – and the breathtaking Nidderdale scenery.

Nearby is a parking spot where you can stay free of charge (although there's an honesty box). It's peaceful and a short walk from the quarry.

At the top of Nidderdale is another spot overlooking the reservoir. As with Coldstones Cut, you pay via honesty box. It's a great spot for birdwatchers!

Howgill Lodge Caravan Park

Not far from Bolton Abbey and the Yorkshire Dales National Park is Howgill Lodge Caravan Park and Campsite. This is a beautiful, cosy spot ideal as a base for hiking. It caters for tents, caravans, campers and motorhomes. In case you're looking for something more indulgent, there are timber lodges to rent fitted out with private hot tubs.

Howgill Lodge is also home to Dorothy, Audrey and Ethel – three alpacas living the high life, roaming, grazing and hanging out with visitors.

And if you're thirsty, you can walk a couple of miles along the river to a local pub.

Wharfe View Farm House

Finally, there's Wharfe View Farm House – a quiet spot on a farm where you can pitch your tent for a small fee. (And if you change your mind about life under canvas, there's a bed and breakfast nearby.)

Or why not park at Stump Cross Caverns?

You can also park your motorhome here at Stump Cross Caverns for just £5 a night. Pitch up on the road between Pateley Bridge and Grassington and enjoy rugged views of the dales.

All you need to bring is your vehicle, power, a toilet and washing facilities. Other than that, feel free to kick back and enjoy a hearty breakfast at our Time Cafe – and take a tour of our caverns.

Whatever your reason for visiting the Dales and whatever your budget, there are a host of options available to you. We look forward to seeing you!

Looking for a family day out near Harrogate? Our show caves are some of the best in the country – and are the ideal destination for a day out, whether you're a curious sightseer or full-blown speleologist. We also host a range of
events and experiences, from dark-sky watching to our very own gem sluice. Whatever the weather, it's a great place to visit. Book today.
