1 December 2025

Meet Santa in the most magical grottos, discover the best festive days out and make some Christmas memories across Yorkshire.

For many families who celebrate, Christmas only begins to feel truly magical once someone has whispered their wish list to the big man in red. And we're inclined to agree!

Whether it's your little one's first-ever grotto or a beloved annual tradition, we don't mind saying that Yorkshire does festive magic exceptionally well. And this year, Santa certainly has a busy touring schedule ahead of the big day. He's making lots of visits across the region, from bustling parks to more peaceful settings – all to help make the season sparkle.

With so many opportunities to meet Father Christmas in person, we thought we'd make things a little easier by listing a few of his favourite stops.

Before we go anywhere else, let's begin with the most atmospheric, unforgettable Santa experience in the Dales.

Meet Santa right here at Stump Cross Caverns

An enchanting grotto with a twist  – ancient caves, glowing lights and cosy festive magic. The ultimate Santa experience in Yorkshire.

Location:  Near Pateley Bridge, between Grassington and Greenhow

If you want a Santa visit that feels genuinely unique, nothing beats our
Christmas experience at Stump Cross Caverns . After a special meeting with Santa and his helpful elf, children can explore a beautifully decorated world beneath the ground. Here, twinkling lights reflect off ancient limestone formations, and thousands of years of history hum quietly in the background. Cosy and atmospheric, it's the kind of place where core memories are formed.

Best of all, it means no long queues in a busy shopping centre. Instead, you can expect a warm welcome from Father Christmas and a chance to explore Yorkshire's very own underground wonderland.

Back on the surface, our charming
Time Cafe is the perfect winter treat stop, too. The family can enjoy some of the best views of the Dales as you thaw out with a hot chocolate or a hearty lunch.

Meanwhile, our
gift shop is stocked with brilliant stocking fillers for budding geologists and curious little explorers. It's a treasure trove of fossils, geodes and crystals that you won't find anywhere else.

Santa's Grotto at Stockeld Park

A fully-stocked festive day out with ice skating, a magical forest and an immersive grotto.

Location:  Near Wetherby

Stockeld Park does Christmas like something out of the movies – big, brilliant and full of colour.
In its immersive Grotto dome, you'll find yourself transported to a North Pole village. Here, you'll find plenty of interactive play and whimsical games to explore while you wait to meet Santa.

You'll also encounter a few of Santa's busy elves adding a touch of mischief and magic, before stepping into the enchanted elevator. Next, you'll be transported to a cosy log cabin and warmly welcomed by Mrs Claus, before heading in to meet Father Christmas himself.

It's a longer day out, so wrap up warm in your best woollies and some comfortable shoes. You might want to bring a power pack for your phone, too – the photo opportunities are impossible to resist!

Murton Park Santa Experience

A creative adventure with plenty of doing, making, and exploring.

Location:  York
Murton Park, home of the Yorkshire Museum of Farming, hosts a charming Santa experience centred on creative activities and immersive storytelling.
As the scent of gingerbread fills the air with festive cheer, families join a journey led by Santa's happy helpers. Along the way, they'll decorate festive creations, learn to giftwrap with Mother Christmas and receive a lovely keepsake gift from the man in red.

Of course, you'll also have the chance to explore the museum afterwards. It's ideal for stretching the day out a little longer – especially if you have kids who love tractors, animals or farmyard adventures.

Santa's North Pole at Lotherton Hall

An accessible Christmas adventure. Lotherton Hall offers Santa experiences for very young children and children with additional needs.

Location:  Leeds

Large stone building with multiple windows, surrounded by a garden and trees.

The Christmas Experience at Lotherton Hall is one of the most dependable festive traditions in Yorkshire.

Santa loves to stop here because Lotheron thoughtfully caters to different kinds of families. It's an especially good choice for families who love the magic, but not the sensory overload.

With a range of experiences to choose from, kids of all ages and needs will get some one-on-one time with Santa. They'll also receive a special gift, and might even get to spend some time with Mrs Claus.

Christmas at Castle Howard

A truly theatrical festive experience.

Location:  North of York

Every Christmas, the house at Castle Howard transforms into an immersive theatrical spectacle. This year's theme, "Christmas at Castle Howard with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz", promises more magic and sparkle than a pair of ruby slippers.

Not only will Santa be in attendance, but Mrs Claus will be paying a special visit, too. And for visitors who require wheelchair access, Santa's Grotto in the Boathouse will include a spectacular festive show from the wonderful Story Craft Theatre.

So… where     should  you meet Santa this year?

If you want something classically festive – the twinkling lights, cosy cabins and snowy wonderlands – you really can't go wrong in Yorkshire.

But what if you're after something you'll talk about for years to come – and that the grown-ups will find just as magical as the kids? Even if we do say so ourselves, the Christmas Experience at Stump Cross Caverns stands in a league of its own.

Add in the Time Cafe , the festive decorations, the warm welcome and our wondrous underground setting, and you've got a recipe for truly special Christmas memories.

Wherever you decide to go, may your December be full of magic – and may Santa bring you everything on your list. (Just make sure you're good!)
