It's that time of year again. The time when we celebrate the dads in our lives and share some special moments with our paternal pals.

Perhaps you plan to let him have a relaxed day to himself. Or maybe you want to give him a Father's Day to remember with a packed programme of dad-friendly fun.

Plumping for the second option? Looking for options in Yorkshire? You're in luck.

We've come up with six picks for Father's Day outing ideas in Yorkshire this year. We hope it helps you decide how to spend time with Dad on this special day.

Visit North Yorkshire Carnival (14 and 15 June)

Is Pops a petrolhead? This will be right up his racetrack.

On Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June, the region will light up with a celebration of all things speedy: the North Yorkshire Carnival.

With an international stunt team and a motorbike show that's bound to leave jaws on floors, this is an opportunity not to be missed. There'll also be monster truck taxis, a giant funfair and foods from around the world – all at Catterick race course.

If the weather holds out, it would make the perfect family day out.

Take a trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Fancy taking a trip on the wild side? Good news: it's free entry for dads at Yorkshire Wildlife Park on 14 and 15 June.

The Park is home t o polar bears, giraffes, lions and leopards – to name just a few examples. For you and Dad, it's an amazing opportunity to get up close and personal with some truly fascinating creatures.

With 150 acres of land to explore, as well as three exciting walk-through animal reserves, it's a paw-some way to celebrate Father's Day.

There are hours of fun to be had from watching the animals, perusing the gift shops and dining at one of several onsite restaurants. Wildlife-loving dads will adore it.

Catch some waves

Here's one you might not have thought of. Why not send Dad on a surfing experience?

North Yorkshire is renowned for its long stretches of beach – and nestled along the coast next to Scarborough is a beautiful spot named "Cayton Bay".

It's a surfers' hotspot. And every year, skilled surfers offer lessons to those wanting to try something new or brush up on their board skills.

Don't worry if you don't have the gear. Most surf schools let you hire boards and wetsuits – and if you can't rent one out, you can stop at the nearby surf shop. In any case, a bunch of friendly team members will get him set up and ready to take on the great British weather.

To top it off, there's a cracking fish and chip shop at the bottom of the cliff. So, when Dad's had enough of the sea, why not treat him to a good old British meal: fish, chips and a dandelion and burdock? Classic.

Vroom your way to Wheelfest & 1940s Ropergate

Wheelfest and 1940s Ropergate is back for its fourth annual vintage and classic car display.

Held in Pontefract town centre, this family day out will host exhibits, entertainment, children's rides and costumed characters. It's easy to see why it's known as "the vehicle show with a difference".

If Dad loves cars, he'll be in Petrol-powered Paradise. And even if he doesn't, you'll still have great fun perusing dozens of artisan stalls or exploring the 1940s-themed historical zone.

With family package ticket options, it could be a day well spent and the perfect treat for the main man.

Practice your swing at Oulton Hall

Nothing screams "Dad fun" like a round of golf. So, why not treat him to one this Father's Day?

Oulton Hall is a picturesque hotel in West Yorkshire that boasts a stately home, a huge golf course and a driving range. And if that's not enough to rock Dad's world, maybe a meal in the Claret Jug after a long day of golfing will do the trick?

Plus, there's room in the day for a spot of pampering. Once Dad's perfected his par, he can slip into a robe and enjoy the onsite spa, which features a pool, gym and steam room.

It sets a high bar when it comes to days out – and we know full well this one will go down like a treat.
