7 things to do in Yorkshire this Father's Day

3 June 2024

Father's Day is fast approaching. Still unsure what to get the main man in your life? Here's a helping hand.

Father's Day is just around the corner – and with time officially not on your side, we thought we'd give you a little nudge to get something booked. We've scoured the web for all things dad-friendly – and with seven options to choose from, we're almost certain that one of these ideas will fit the bill. How about a cheesemaking experience? Or a beer tour? Or a day of underground exploration? Whatever you choose, Dad's special day will be nothing short of amazing. So, here are some fantastic experiences that you can enjoy this Father's Day – all based in our beautiful county of Yorkshire.

1. Axe throwing in a real castle

Axe embedded in a wooden target, red and black circles visible.

Between Leeds and York is a beautiful location called Hazelwood Castle.

Hazelwood offers various experiences. But if you want to calm a stress-laden dad, you can't go wrong with an axe-throwing session.

For one whole hour, you could be launching huge axes across a fairly large area in an attempt to score a hit on a target. A little competition never hurt anybody, right?

2. A neck and shoulder massage

Person receiving herbal compress massage on their back in a spa setting.

From one stress reliever to another. If throwing huge chunks of iron on wooden sticks isn't Dad's bag, perhaps a relaxing massage would be more welcome.

A crowd favourite among dad-friendly gifts is the classic neck and shoulder massage. After all, who wouldn't love 35 minutes of pure relaxation?

So, if you're stuck for ideas, treat your dad to an experience that will leave him feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. You'll find options at spas and salons throughout Yorkshire.
3. A cheesemaking experience

Person stirring liquid in a large stainless steel vat, possibly cheese making.

Is Dad a cheese fan? You'll make his year if you sign him up for this brie-lightful experience. (See what we did there?)

This full-day experience promises to teach you the full cheese-making process. And, of course, it's based in the great Yorkshire Dales: the heart of all things "country".
Enjoy a day filled with cheese, crackers and plenty of laughs as you tour the facilities and try your hand at making your very own cheese.

We camembert-ly contain our excitement!

4. A beer tour

Two beer flights on wooden trays with six different beers in glasses.

Based in Leeds, this guided beer tour will take you on an adventure to remember. Leeds is jam-packed with independent breweries and quirky alehouses. So, what better place to enjoy a beer tour than in none other than the UK's craft ale capital?

On the tour, you'll swig some of the finest regional beers and ales, all while enjoying a bit of socialising with like-minded dads for half a day.
After all, nothing says "Love you, Dad" quite like a pint of beer and a bag of pork scratchings.

5. A supercar experience

Green Lamborghini sports car on a racetrack.

Does Dad have a need for speed? It's time to put your pedal to the metal and get him behind the wheel of his all-time favourite cars this Father's Day.

Just off of the A64 is an old airfield known as Elvington. Throughout the year, it runs supercar experiences where you get to pick a handful of cars in which to blast around the track.

With Ferraris, Lamborghinis and more jaw-dropping cars on offer, your dad could be living life in the fast lane. (For a couple of minutes, at least.)

It's truly one for the bucket list. After all, it's not every day you find yourself sitting behind the wheel of these supercharged – and super-expensive – motors.
6. A football stadium tour

Empty blue stadium seating, green pitch, clear sky.

If your dad is a Leeds fan, why not get onto the Leeds United website and book tickets to tour the stadium? Dad will enjoy an inside scoop into how the players feel before stepping onto the pitch.

This access-all-areas tour includes a glimpse into the changing rooms, followed by a walk onto the pitch so you can put yourself in your favourite players' shoes.

This one is sure to get you in the "favourite child" books!

7. A day at Stump Cross Caverns

A colorful cave lit with red, orange, and blue lights, showing stalactites and stalagmites.

We all know about the great outdoors – but what about the great underground?

Stump Cross Caverns is an ancient underground cave system nestled deep underneath the Yorkshire Dales. It's chock-full of awe-inspiring rock formations, mysterious passageways and plenty of opportunities to learn about our local history.

So, if you need some inspiration for your old man, why not treat him to a time hop? Take an
underground cave tour at Stump Cross and you'll visit an ancient world, born long before humans roamed the Earth. It truly is an experience like no other.

And the caves are just the start. We also have a scenic on-site cafe, a treasure trove of a gift shop and even a private cinema where you can watch Dad's favourite film with up to 39 of his mates.

It's the perfect day out for all of the family – and definitely one for the memory books. However, we expect tickets to sell fast.
Book online today to avoid disappointment and get ready for a Father's Day experience to remember.
