This Halloween half term, why not join us at Stump Cross Caverns?

All year round, visitors explore the gorgeous stalagmites, stalactites, chambers and passageways that make up our cave system. Descending the 60 steps that lead into the cavern is the closest you can get to time travel – those limestone formations have been there for hundreds of thousands of years.

But as well as the caves themselves, we offer a varied schedule of events and experiences for everyone from kids to adults, from the cave-curious to the cave expert. And this Halloween, things are getting a little spooky.

Join us between Saturday 26 October and Sunday 3 November 2024 for a calendar of events that will thrill and chill in equal measure. Do you dare join us deep below the Yorkshire Dales?

Halloween trail

Join us in the shadowy depths of the caves, where a riddle needs solving. Collect the clues and crack the riddle to win a prize.

Ultraviolet caves

Stump Cross Caverns are made out of limestone – and limestone has a fascinating secret.

When you turn off the electric lights and shine ultraviolet rays at our cave walls, you see beautiful shimmering calcite veins.

Experience the remarkable natural phenomenon of fluorescence yourself this Halloween. After 3 PM, we
turn the lights off and provide visitors with UV torches . The caves have never looked more hauntingly beautiful!

Fossil digs

Looking for a kids' activity that's both educational and fun? Our fossil digs could be just what you're looking for.

This half term, we're holding daily
interactive fossil digs between 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM in our cosy cinema. Kids hunt for fossils – a hands-on experience that deepens their understanding of the science behind these remarkable artefacts.

Best costume competition

Come dressed in your spookiest costume and be in with a chance of winning a special prize! The most creative and blood-curdling costume wins.
Stone Age workshop

Want to learn about Stone Age life? Eager to get your hands on the tools our ancestors used to survive? Join our Stone Age experts for a session of captivating stories and craft activities.

Safety first

Here at Stump Cross, we're all about ensuring visitors have a day to remember – and that involves keeping things safe, welcoming and inclusive.

Yes, things are going to get spooky – but never anything less than safe for visitors of all ages.
