Looking for a fun, educational workshop for kids? Look no further than our Cosmic Adventures sessions.

Here at Stump Cross Caverns, we're not just passionate about our caves and our role as their custodians. We're also passionate about education – in particular, learning through play.

This March, you can see this passion in action at our
Cosmic Adventures sessions. These family-friendly workshops are all about the solar system. Are you ready to join us for blast-off?

Kids get to learn all about the night sky and are introduced to spotting constellations. The sessions then move to creative crafts, giving kids the opportunity to mould their own planet and create a constellation.

It's a fun, engaging adventure – and an absolute bargain at £5.50 per person. The sessions run on weekends throughout March 2025 and daily throughout April. Each session lasts one hour and starts at 2 PM.

Want more than just a Cosmic Adventure?

As if that wasn't enough, you can buy tickets for the
Cosmic Adventures and Cave bundle. This combines the workshop with a chance to explore the caves and take part in a fun, inclusive quiz.

Then there's the
Cave and Fossil Dig bundle. This is another interactive, hands-on session that focuses on our extensive collection of prehistoric fossils and gems.

Not only that, but this bundle also lets you take part in a
UV cave tour. This is a trip around the caves with a difference. Each participant is given an ultraviolet torch, under which the rocks glow with an eerie magic.

So, what are you waiting for?

Dark skies events

Our Cosmic Adventures workshops are designed for children to enjoy. But we also hold dark skies events – stargazing sessions that can be a treat for people of any age and any skill level.

The Yorkshire Dales are dark – but not like the darkness you get in cities. In nearby Leeds and Harrogate, for instance, the constellations are obscured by pollution from street lamps, neon signs and other light sources.

But out here at Stump Cross Caverns, the skies are a pitch-black canvas for a sparkling tapestry of stars that has to be seen to be believed.

It's so dark, in fact, that the Yorkshire Dales National Park is a designated
Dark Sky Reserve. This means measures are taken to preserve the darkness of the night sky.

We're currently wrapping up our winter season of stargazing events but will be back in November for more. This is a time of year when you can get a good look at constellations, such as Orion, and the planets of our solar system, including Jupiter, Venus and Uranus.

At Stump Cross, we're truly blessed to have front-row seats for the cosmos. Come and join us to see what the fuss is all about.
